Gregory DePaul Whelan, a registered stockbroker and investment adviser formerly with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner Smith Incorporated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is currently the subject of a pending customer initiated investment related Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) securities arbitration claim.

FINRA Public Disclosure shows that the pending arbitration claim, filed on May 10, 2024 (FINRA Arbitration No, 24-01030), alleged unsuitable investment recommendations, misrepresentations, and the use of personal email to engage in selling away. The customer requested $2,000,000 in damages, involving equities, real estate investment trusts (REITs), private securities, and life settlements. This matter remains unresolved.

A previous customer dispute, filed on February 24, 2021 (FINRA Arbitration No. 21-00495), involved allegations of unsuitable investment recommendations in July 2017 and a delay in following instructions in February 2020 regarding private securities. The dispute was settled on October 26, 2021, with a settlement amount of $100,000.

Whelan has been registered with Merrill Lynch since April 22, 2013, as both a stockbroker and investment advisor representative.
